    The Civil Division of the District Attorney’s Office performs civil legal, transactional and litigation services to Salt Lake County as a governmental entity. This division of the Office supports the diverse departments, agencies and elected offices of the County by providing a complete range of legal services. These services include legal support for the Community and Support Services Department, the Human Services Department and the Public Works Department as well as legal expertise in Tax and Revenue areas, Public Safety, and Environmental Health/Natural Resources.

    The statutory duties of the District Attorney include providing legal counsel to Salt Lake County, its Municipal Services Fund and some Special Service Districts. Additionally, the District Attorney provides opinions to County officers and agencies, collects the debt owed to Salt Lake County including bankruptcy monies, enforces regulatory actions, reviews contracts, prepares and reviews legal documents including statutes, ordinances and policies, handles real property transactions, provides taxation and revenue support, aids in budgetary matters and provides litigation in certain areas.
