The Special Victims Unit (SVU) prosecutes highly sensitive cases such as child physical and sexual abuse, child abuse homicide, child kidnapping, child pornography, and sexual assault against adults. Those cases often involve traumatic events which can make the court process difficult for victims to endure. This makes SVU cases factually and emotionally challenging. Prosecutors receive special training allowing them to prosecute offenders successfully and support victims through the criminal justice system.
The SVU uses a team approach to successfully prosecute these unique and difficult cases. Prosecutors work closely with specialized investigators, counselors, medical professionals, and others to obtain justice and care for the needs of vulnerable victims. Everyone involved is greatly invested in seeing a just resolution to these cases and works tirelessly to that end.
