Salt Lake County is a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family. As County residents, we enjoy a diversity of economic, educational, and recreational opportunities. Whether one enjoys the beauty and activities provided by the mountains; the eclectic cultural, social, and sporting events provided by a burgeoning metropolis; or the security afforded by a relatively resilient economy, there are many reasons to appreciate living in Salt Lake Valley. As Salt Lake County District Attorney, it is my job to ensure that you as citizens are safe to enjoy all that life in the County has to offer. I am grateful for the opportunity that you have given me to serve you, and I am deeply committed to ensuring that Salt Lake County remains an inviting place to live well into the future.
Like all of the attorneys and staff in the District Attorney’s Office, I am dedicated to the responsible prosecution of crime in our great County. Since taking office, I have been impressed by the devotion and expertise of the attorneys prosecuting the violent criminals who threaten our community. Those attorneys do an excellent job, and I thank them for their efforts.
I believe that we can do more. There is much we can accomplish by working together. As District Attorney, I understand that by partnering with our community, the DA’s Office can create a safer, more just environment for everyone. By finding new ways to work with community leaders, we can make our efforts toward crime prevention, crime detection, and criminal detention more effective. By creating more community outreach programs, we can better educate the public on the effects of crime and how to avoid it. By working closely with victims, we can more thoroughly investigate and more effectively prosecute criminal behavior. In short, tightening relationships between the DA’s Office and community organizations and citizens will greatly improve the efficacy of criminal prosecution.
Additionally, “partnering with our community” means increasing cooperation and coordination with local law enforcement agencies. My highest priority is holding criminals responsible for the terrible crimes they commit against our community. By investing more in working and cooperating with police agencies in various programs and initiatives, we can improve relationships and information sharing in the criminal justice system—ultimately leading to more effective prosecution. We better obtain justice when those responsible for investigating and prosecuting crimes are on the same page.
As your chief advocate in the criminal justice system, I vow to provide you with the highest possible service and be your voice against injustice. I look forward to working for and with you to bring criminals to justice, meeting the needs of victims, and giving you the safe environment necessary for an improved quality of life.
