Victims and witnesses of violent crime have experienced a traumatic event. Such an experience may impact a person’s willingness or ability to participate in the criminal justice process. The District Attorney Counseling Unit (DACU) exists to support and help victims through that process. The counselors in the DA’s Office help victims understand the court process, accompany victims through court proceedings, assess victim needs, and refer victims to other support services.
DACU counselors are Master’s level licensed social workers possessing specialized training in working with victims of crime. They understand that the criminal justice system can be confusing and intimidating to victims and witnesses alike and are committed to making the court process as positive an experience as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact the District Attorney Counseling Unit at (801) 363-7911.
